Sensory Play- Rice

So I did a SUPER fun sensory activity with BJH. Last week we made colored rice. (2 cups of rice, 1 T of rubbing alcohol and 2T of food coloring). After we mixed them in the baggies we laid them out on pans to dry (I put parchemnt paper down for less mess). I let them dry out for a couple of days re-flattening it a couple times a day to be sure the underside dried well. After it was very well dried, I put them in baggies to store them until we used them. Well this mrning we got them out to play. I put all kinds of letters/numbers/balls and measuring tools inside the bucket and then put the rice in there. BJH was occupied for 40 minutes and only when we started getting out of control with our mess we put it up (she would have kept going). We had a blast and made a mess. This activitiy was a great tiem for her and I to sit and play (she's too young to do this on her own  yet). You will probvably want to do this somewhere that it is ok to make a mess. It's very easy to sweep it up!

She was really having fun learning, wasn't she??

Purposefully playing, Meredith and BJH
